Alright, this is for those of you who don’t have a ton of time to work out or are running late to the gym and need to shorten your workout for the day.
In an ideal world, there would be no limit to the amount of time you could dedicate to the gym. You would be free from the stresses and demands of the outside world. All that would matter is what happened on that bench press, in that squat rack, or on that lat pull down that day. Unfortunately, the reality of the situation is that most of us live very busy lives. This means the time we dedicate to the gym is limited. Of course, this holds true more for some than others, but no matter who you are, time is something we should all hold dear. There will be days that are busier than others, where you are simply running late because of unexpected circumstances. Your hour and a half workout has just been cut in half for the day and you have no control over the situation. So, in these times of chaos, what do you do? Do you just give up and call it a day? Is it better to just take the day off and start over in the morning? The answer here is simple: it’s time to SUPERSET BABY!
People waste a whole lot of time in the gym waiting in-between sets. This can be due to pure exhaustion, but nine times out of ten it is due to distraction. You just hit a hard set so you hop on your phone so you can recover. You start scrolling through your social media and before you know it, five minutes have passed! We’ve all been there people. You may be in the gym for two hours, but how much of that time was actually spent working out? My guess is about half at best. This is okay though, so don’t worry! This means that if you are running late to the gym, the solution is simple! Instead of cutting out half of your workout, cut out half of your rest time! How do we do that? All together now, “SUPERSET BABY!!!”
Supersetting your workouts is a great way to maximize efficiency while also testing your body and forcing yourself out of your comfort zone. Combining two exercises into one will cut your rest time in half right on the spot! Also, when you are training at such a high intensity, you will find that you won’t need to lift as much weight in order to achieve the same pump as you would during your normal workout. This will not only reduce the amount of time you spend in the gym, but it will also reduce the amount of stress you put on your joints which is great for long term health and wellness!
Be efficient with your limited time.
At the end of the day, there is no reason why a limited time in the gym has to be an ineffective one. When done properly, a 45 minute workout can be just as effective (if not more) as a two hour session. It all comes down to your intensity and willingness to work. Cut out the wasted minutes. Stop looking at others in the gym and thinking about what could be. Make a change in yourself for the better.
We all have our excuses. Just remember that your body should be a priority. Invest in longevity. What is the point of all your hard work in school or in the workplace if you won’t be there to reap the rewards 30-40 years down the road? The game of life is a long one. The road you will travel is a tough one. Take the initiative today and start building yourself into something that will last for decades to come.
