Building a great physique takes time. Lots of it. This is no different that any other aspects of success. As a matter of fact, in one of our recent articles, we discussed Malcolm Gladwell’s theory that really excelling at something is not just a matter of dedication and persistence but doing so for over 10,000 hours. You can have all the talent and skill in the world, but if you can’t keep running during overtime, you are done. And how does weight lifting tie in with this? Well, if you stick with it long enough, you’ll realize that just like building a house, this shit takes patience and is NOT for the faint of heart. Cultivate this skill, and you’re already ahead of 99% of the curve.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
If you’ve ever done a set to complete failure till you threw up or burst an eye vessel, you know pain. If you’ve done high rep squats till you almost choke, you know pain. All of a sudden, staying up past midnight, giving a presentation in front of 20 people, or submitting a report just doesn’t seem that painful anymore. PAIN IS RELATIVE.

If you lift rocks on the daily, giving a presentation is probably not that scary anymore, huh?
The Pivot Master
Life will throw many curveballs at you; whether you’re starting a business, trying to get a 4.0 GPA, or you’re faced with a devastating injury midway in the season. The difference between winners and losers is that winners quickly find ways to adapt and change their strategy based on their immediate circumstances, better yet; they’ve already planned for all contingencies, which means that they’ve prepared for EVERY SCENARIO ahead of time. Now, this is the type of skill you’ll absolutely learn in the school of the iron. As a matter of fact, shit hits the fan all of the time: you pack all your meals and your Tupperware leaks. What will you do? You planned to train a certain bodypart, but you tear that muscle mid way. What will you do? You prepared to stay on your diet for the summer, but your family is coming over and you realize you won’t be able to workout when you want to. What will you do?
While these examples might seem inconsequential or small trust me when I say that these different scenarios will prepare you to plan ahead LIKE NOTHING ELSE; and, most importantly be RESOURCEFUL to achieve your goals, no matter what.
