KEY TAKEWAYS FOR SUCCESS

  • Don’t let your fitness slip this summer.
  • Find what motivates you.
  • Tomorrow is a new opportunity.

Finals are over, suitcases have been unpacked and you are finally home for the summer. Time to relax!

Maybe your idea of “relaxing” is taking a day or two off from the gym. Slowly those two days turn into ten and you soon realize that you haven’t gone to the gym in weeks.

Having Trouble Getting Back To The Gym After A Crazy Semester?

Here are some things you might come across that could stand in the way of your fitness mojo this summer:

Where’s My Beach Bod?

Maybe going to ocean next week with all of your friends is your motivation to turn it up a notch at the gym.

Or… maybe not.

Summer Jobs

If you’re anything like me and you make all your money in the summer, the months of May, June, July and August are major #GrindTime. Most college students tend to work in foodservice, a job where you are standing on your feet almost the entire shift.

After waitressing for eight or nine hours (with maybe 10 minutes to sit down), sometimes the last thing I feel like doing when I close up the café is to go to the gym. After all, I have been on my feet all day, running to the kitchen, up and down the stairs, and dealing with the creatures that are customers.

If I am not in the mood to workout after my shift, on the car ride home I blast music that I typically lift to because I find it gets me “in the zone.” Also, it feels odd to be sitting in a car and not in the gym when my workout jam comes on.

Pre-Workout

The second I walk in the door I sprint up to my room and immediately mix my pre-workout in my Blender Bottle and I chug it.

I am not about to waste my precious supplements if I am not going to go hard in the gym. If I drink it, I have to be out of the house within 20 to 30 minutes before it kicks in. This is honestly the #1 thing that gets me to workout no matter how sore my feet are from my shift.

It’s Too Damn Hot To Move

Seriously, who wants to go running outside or drive to the poorly air-conditioned gym when it is 80 degrees out and humid?

Not me.

BBQs

Burgers, beers, and bad decisions.

It’s okay, no one knows you had that third hot dog. Gains, right?

Final Thoughts

campus elite, the campus elite, college success, college fitness, college fit, college workout, freshman 15, college health, college dietSure, there are things that might throw you off course this summer, but what makes a true champion is someone who always gets back on the horse. Tomorrow is another day and a new opportunity to kick ass.
